native plant walk
at SMONEĆTEN  campground

Tucked among towering Douglas firs and cedars, SMONEĆTEN Campground is a peaceful retreat just minutes from Sidney, Victoria, and the BC Ferries terminal. With 49 spacious sites for tents and RVs, it’s an ideal base for exploring both nature and nearby towns.

The popular Lochside Trail runs right by the campground, offering a scenic cycling route through the region. SMONEĆTEN (pronounced “smah-nitch-tin”) is a W̱SÁNEĆ word meaning “place of pitch,” reflecting the area's cultural significance as a site where fir sap was traditionally gathered. Today, the campground is part of Gulf Islands National Park Reserve and welcomes all.
