 ÍY¸NONET¸ÁUTW̱ E TŦE SJESENENEȻ

The Centre for Plant Health, located in North Saanich on the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, is Canada's only post-entry quarantine facility for virus testing of fruit trees, grapevines, and berries.

Recently renewed by the Government of Canada, the Centre—renamed ÍY¸NONET¸ÁUTW̱ E TŦE SJESENENEȻ, meaning “the place that is good for the plants”—offers world-class diagnostic and research capabilities. It supports safe plant importation, pathogen testing, virus elimination, and plant-related research using advanced technologies like PCR, ELISA, and genomic sequencing. The Centre also maintains Canada’s national repository of virus-tested plant varieties and supports international trade and plant health standards.
