Looking for a “passionate farm experience”? The Roost Farm Centre and Highland House Winery is the place to be this Flavour Trail weekend. Breakfasts, lunches and country farm dinners of epic proportions fly out of the small kitchen and outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. Tour the farm and winery, taste the freshly baked bread and treats made from the Roost’s own homegrown wheat, grown and milled on site. Enjoy farm-fresh blueberries and other farm treats. Wood-fired pizza is a specialty. Farm estate wines and unique wine cocktails are not to be missed! The Roost is an unmissable destination on the Flavour Trail weekend! Explore the Feminine Principle through Permaculture & Art on Sunday, August 24 at Wild Edge Garden Farm.  Garden Art Talk & Tours: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Come and enjoy the magic of sculpture and paintings in this beautiful garden setting. Heather Goulet invites you to explore her garden and art along with several other local women artists.  Permaculture Principles and Ethics & Perennial Edible Tour: 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Join Solara Goldwynn of Hatchet & Seed ( for an afternoon discussion of how permaculture principles and ethics can help in the design of vibrant garden systems. Tour the Wild Edge garden and dive into the exciting world of perennial edibles (how to grow, harvest, preserve, and propagate). Learn how we can incorporate permaculture principles and ethics into many aspects of our lives. Local author and story-teller Sylvia Olsen will also be on site at noon to narrate a special story in the garden.

White House Stables offers lots to see!

If you like farm animals and race horses, White House Stables is the place to visit on the North Saanich Flavour Trail. Enjoy guided tours (no free range visitors, thanks) around this heritage farm between 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 24. Meet all the animals, from a mixed flock of chickens to champion thoroughbred race horses and see the results of 29 years of sustainable and organic farm practices in the diverse, healthy food grown on the farm in Constance’s Jardin-Potager. Meet Bella the jersey cow and her family, Sarah the spotted pig and her daughters, Silke and Sadie. This old fashioned diverse farm will surprise you at every turn. Farm shop, feed sales and food production that respects nature. Oh yes, and did we mention Pedro the donkey? Livestock guard dogs on site – absolutely NO DOGS of any size please! Sunday Flavour Cycle Features Farms and Wineries

Join Steve Duck of for a leisurely Sunday cycle on the North Saanich Flavour Trail. Explore farms, markets and other tasty stops on two wheels! The tour starts and finishes at the Roost Farm Centre in North Saanich (plenty of parking). The ride will travel the country roads of the Peninsula to visit Flavour Trail events and locations. This will be a relaxing ride with lots of time to experience the many flavour stops. The ride is approximately 25 km. Stops include the Roost Farm Centre, White House Stables, Domaine Rochette and the West Coast Canine Academy Sheep Herding demonstration, Wild Edge Garden Farm, Muse Winery, Greene’s Farm, Snowdon House and Highland House Winery (see the North Saanich Flavour Trail page for what you’ll see at these venues). Riders will leave the Roost Farm Centre at 9:30 a.m. returning by about 4:30 p.m. The participant fee for this escorted and fully supported ride is $65 per person, lunch and taxes included. The Bistro Muse has released the menu for its Friday night Flavour Trail kickoff BBQ (August 22 @ 6pm). The North Saanich Flavour Trail begins with this fabulous evening celebrating of the Peninsula bounty. You’ll enjoy a harvest table filled with locally farmed products, including the Bistro Muse’s Seafood Chowder, Deep Cove Potato Salad, Bistro Muse Salad, Wine Maker’s Ribs, “Build Your Own” Beef or Veggie burgers, Vegetarian Lasagna, Corn on the Cob, all followed by a scrumptious warmed mixed berry crumble.  Click here to download the complete menu.
